How is Energy work "Complementary"?

Do not stop taking medication when you begin complementary therapies. Energy work is not a substitute for medical therapies or clinical psychological therapies.

Traditional medicine has handled our health and provided lifesaving and pain reducing drugs for a few hundred years now. The discovery of "germs" was a huge step forward in reducing disease and increasing hygiene which resulted in prolonged and improved quality of life. Modern medicine is lifesaving but some of it has become an immense industry treating symptoms, and "health" is not in the best interest of some companies that get paid when people stay sick. Understand that traditional medicine is NECESSARY, prolongs life, and improves quality of life for so many people. But it doesn't reach into all the causes of illness. It may touch on some but is generally a bandage over the symptoms, as rooting out the cause of dis-ease and providing cures is not lucrative, especially if they're inexpensive. Your doctor won't come out and tell you that your mind affects your experience and can aid in your healing. Sometimes, people want you to rely on them because it's good for their job security or ego, or they truly believe that no one can do it better.

There have long been traditions that incorporated diet, herbal remedies, music, and dance in healing. Ayurvedic medicine has done well for the past few millennia and it continues to have value today, but we needed a bit more. It's time for integrative therapies to become mainstream. Traditional medicine has taken us far, but it needs support to move our health to the next level. It's antiquated on it's own because it does not address the whole human, it does not routinely take into account dietary intake, it does not account for our emotions which are based on our core beliefs and current thoughts. We can do better, and complementary therapies such as Reiki speed healing, lessen some need for excessive pain medication and produce a greater sense of well being. Reiki work creates an environment for healing with a connection and the intention for healing. It's like meditation or prayer with another. Meditation and prayer have been found to produce significant health changes including reduced heart rate, reduced stress, enhanced self-esteem, and increased serotonin, which produce an improved quality of life.

Mental health is extremely important for someone’s well-being and care, and this is why Reiki is considered a complementary therapy. It does not replace traditional medicine and so may also be referred to as "integrative medicine" or "integrative health therapy".
